Taking a Risk When Things Don't Go Your Way

Embarking on a legal writing project with dedication and enthusiasm, only to have the federal court deem the law unconstitutional, can be disheartening. Such an experience, however, has become a profound lesson in resilience, risk-taking, and the indomitable spirit that propels some toward success.

For six months, I have worked extremely hard collaborating with experienced attorneys about ways to comply with a new law that went into effect Jan 1. The goal was to write to consumers and professionals about the law, things they should consider, and how to comply. However, a federal court declared the law unconstitutional on Friday so I’m unsure if it’s a moot point now. Or I was.

My boss surprised us all with a decision that showcased the essence of a true risk-taker. Instead of scrapping the project, he's chosen to go full steam ahead, taking a calculated gamble that the decision will be appealed in the future. It’s a bold move and part of the reason he’s in the position he’s in today. In the world of entrepreneurship and innovation, risk-takers often emerge as trailblazers. His decision to push forward despite the legal setback taught me a valuable lesson about the importance of taking risks and being flexible. As a control freak, I feel like this goes inherently against my nature, but there's so much value in it.
