AI and the Legal Profession

With the rise in AI it is very important to address how the use of AI will impact the legal profession. I think that AI has the potential to make some aspects of a lawyers job a bit easier but I would not say that it has the potential to make a lawyers job easier entirely. AI can be helpful to lawyers in answering some questions regarding cases and potentially even forecast some outcomes of certain approaches that a lawyer may take. AI may also be able to help a lawyer strategize a given case or analyze potential outcomes based on different approaches the lawyer may be considering. Because AI can analyze large portions of information and cases it can help lawyers to see how different outcomes in similar cases have been reached.
With that being said I think that AI has the potential to make lawyers jobs more difficult in certain ways. For instance in situations where an individual may use AI rather than obtaining a lawyer there can be situations that arise requiring new rules and regulations for lawyers to follow relating to aspects such as ethics. This is something that I think needs to be addressed sooner rather than later, especially considering the quick rise in the use of AI for various things.
While I do think that AI can offer some helpful aspects to a lawyers day to day work I do not think that it is able to completely take over some tasks that lawyers are required to do. I think that some sort of face to face interaction is crucial in many areas of the legal profession. Through this face to face interaction clients can have better describe their situation and lawyers can have a better understanding of the situation they are faced with. Although this is something that AI could eventually grow into in some ways, I think AI would still work best in the legal profession coupled with a lawyer utilizing it and not just AI itself.
